Each year Ted Moores hosts a 7 day canoe building workshop at their Peterborough location. Designed for builders of all ages and abilities, students will build either the Steve Killing designed Freedom 17, Chestnut Prospector 16′ or the Ranger 15. Learning techniques that are deceptively simple, first time canoe builders will find they are familiar with many of the tools and techniques of canoe building, yet experienced canoe builders will be challenged by Ted’s high standards of workmanship. Class sizes are small and early registration for this acclaimed workshop is recommended.
Mentor a new canoe builder
Do you remember back when you purchased your first canoe plan? Did you have lots of questions about the proper tools to use to build your canoe, how to choose a canoe design, how to sand your canoe properly or whether to use dye or stain? In 2013, resolve to take a canoebuilder under your wing. If your friends and family have already started their own canoebuilding projects, share your expertise on our builder’s forum.
Discover a new place to canoe
In 2000, Canadian author and paddler Kevin Callan set out to discover what he considered to be “lost” canoe routes in his home province of Ontario. The result is an entertaining guidebook of 50 canoe routes rarely visited by weekend canoe enthusiasts. In 2013, take a trip on one of these routes, or go on an adventure and discover a new route.
Finish your masterpiece
Did you start 2012 resolving to finish your canoebuilding project, only to wake up on December 31 with a disorganized woodshop and half-finished canoe covered in dust?
